Hadrian Æ 29mm of Palaeobeudos, Phrygia. AD 117-138. ΑV ΚΑΙ ΤΡΑIA ΑΔΡΙΑΝΟC, laureate, draped and cuirassed bust to right / ΠΑΛΑΙΟΒΕVΔΗΝΩΝ, Zeus seated to left on throne, feet on foot stool, holding long sceptre in left and patera in extended right hand; behind throne, eagle with spread wings, head to left, wreath in its beak. RPC III 2620C = Agora 103, 209; von Aulock, Phrygiens -; SNG von Aulock -; BMC -. 10.61g, 29mm, 6h.

Near Very Fine. Extremely Rare; only one example cited by RPC.

From the comment of Agora Auctions, Numismatic Auction 103, lot 209: "This coin is a unique find for a number of reasons. The reverse type is unknown for the city as well as an unpublished obverse legend. Additionally, the legend on this coin begins at 7 o'clock whereas the other known types start at 1 o'clock. But more importantly, this coin introduces a new denomination unknown to Palaeobeudos. The other known coins range from 17-21 mm and 3-5.5 grams, the approximate size of an imperial quadrans. This coin is the equivalent to the imperial as."
